Today marks the 10th birthday of my first book, Easy Peasy Potty Training !
When Easy Peasy Potty Training was published, I was just so happy to have a book out in the world that I didn’t really consider its real life impact.
Of course, when I was writing it I hoped it would be helpful to tired, frustrated parents, who, like me, found potty training their toddler a huge challenge. But the thought that complete strangers would find, buy, read and use my book to help with toilet training was too mind-blowing to truly contemplate properly.
In the decade since Easy Peasy Potty Training hit (virtual) bookshelves, hundreds of families have shared what really makes this book special.
Here are three reasons why parents still love Easy Peasy Potty Training after 10 years…
1) Real Results That Work
Parents rave about seeing tangible success with their children. Even though I purposely did not espouse any kind of 2 or 3 day method there were lots of reports of fast, practical potty training results, often in days:
- “Our 3-year-old… is fully potty trained after using this book. That includes daytime, pooping, outings, nap times, and even overnight!”
- “I potty trained my freshly two-year-old sooo quickly. Didn’t follow the guide to a ‘T’ but the guidelines helped!”
- “It worked very well for him. He was potty trained in 2 days!”
- “I bought it ahead of the actual process and it was extremely helpful in identifying a plan.”
2) Clear Guidance Coupled with Humor
There was a lot of love for the actionable advice paired with humor and real-life anecdotes. I wanted there to be absolutely no fluff and for parents to feel understood. It is unlikely that anyone would enjoy potty training but maybe there could be a bit of fun along the way:
- “I found Julie’s advice helpful… and I loved the humor! Nothing like humor to help little ones through awkward toilet training sessions.”
- “I liked the Mama and Daddy stories throughout the book.”
- “Packed with great tips, explanations… at times very funny.”
- “Well organized potty training information. Straightforward, easy to follow.”
- “Cheerful though realistic tone… I found myself smiling frequently when reading it.”
- “This book is a serious but light-hearted guidebook… she does help you laugh at it.”
3) Flexible, Encouraging and Empowering
The book encourages parents to adapt the strategies and build confidence in their own way. I definitely didn’t want it to be a one-size-fits-all approach but a supportive companion that empowers parents:
- “She insists you make it your own since you know your child best.”
- “The encouraging and down-to-earth tone is like having an expert friend… you can pick and mix which strategies will work best for your family.”
- “Several options to choose from if you don’t agree with one approach.”
- “Emphasizes adapting the method to your child’s personality and readiness.”
- “Easy Peasy Potty Training gets right to the point. An excellent book for every parent… quick tools to easy potty training.”
Happy Book Birthday!
As we mark this 10-year milestone of Easy Peasy Potty Training, I want to say how incredibly grateful I am to every parent, caregiver, and reviewer who has shared their potty training journey. Your feedback—funny, chaotic, inspiring—has made these ten years unforgettable.
